What are the entry requirements?
There aren’t any! You don’t need any previous accounting experience or qualifications to start studying AAT Foundation, just a willingness to learn! It’s ideal if you’ve just finished school/college or are thinking of changing career.
What's covered in AAT Foundation?
AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting (Level 2) covers the basic principles of accountancy, such as double-entry bookkeeping, costing and preparing financial statements, as well as how to use accounting software.

Do the units need to be taken in any particular order?
You can study units in any order, but we would advise that you complete the Bookkeeping Transactions (BTRN) unit before studying for Bookkeeping Controls (BKCL) or Using Accounting Software (UACS). The synoptic assessment can only be taken once you have completed all other units.
Do I get any exemptions?
If you have worked in accounts for some time or have relevant accountancy qualifications, you may be exempt. If you think you may be exempt, use the AAT exemptions checker or contact our Student Support team.You may also have exemptions if you have completed one of the AAT Bookkeeping Short Qualifications.
Am I eligible for funding?
If you’ve yet to start the qualification, you may be eligible for an Apprenticeship.
How can I pay for my course?
You can pay by credit or debit card, PayPal or invoice your employer when you buy online. You can also apply for an interest-free payment plan and spread the cost of the course over monthly payments for the duration of your studies, up to a maximum of 12 months.
How do I book my exam?
Book an exam when you're ready. You will need to provide the following: AAT ID number, date of birth and payment. You can pay by card, PayPal or we can invoice your employer. If you're not sure when to sit your exam, our timetables suggest recommended exam dates.
Are the AAT registration fees included in the course price?
No, you need to register with AAT directly.
How long does it take to complete the Foundation Certificate?
On average, most students complete the Foundation Certificate within 6-12 months. You must take 12 months to complete if studying under an Apprenticeship scheme.
I’m currently studying with another provider? Can I switch to Kaplan?
