Entry requirements and exemptions
The CIMA qualification is open to everyone,
although your starting point will be different depending on your
previous qualifications.
If you wish to study for the CIMA qualification, you need to register online directly with CIMA as a student. If you are starting at the Certificate level, you can do this at any time, but allow approximately two months prior to when you plan to sit your first computer based assessment so that CIMA have time to process your registration.
If you are starting at the Operational or Management level or taking the Gateway route, you should register before the following deadlines:
- To sit your first exam in May, you must register by 31 January
- To sit your first exam in November, you must register by 31 July
Exemptions from certain exams may be granted, depending on your prior qualifications. For further information visit CIMA’s exemption database.
At Kaplan we’re aware that exemptions can create issues for students, in that topics covered in previous studies may have been forgotten or fundamental changes in the subject content may have taken place. We therefore offer a variety of knowledge gap resources designed to overcome this issue, such as guidance and video courses, located on Kaplan EN-gage.
