AAT Frequently Asked Questions
We often get asked questions about the AAT qualification, so we’ve listed these the most commonly asked questions to help answer any queries you may have.
How do I register with the AAT?
To register please visit the AAT website - http://www.aat.org.uk
What if I live a long distance from a Kaplan Centre?
Don’t worry! Kaplan has a range of study options to help you in your AAT studies - you can get an overview of our flexible Ways to Study AAT. For those people who prefer to study independently at their own pace, we have an excellent Distance Learning AAT Course available where students consistently achieve pass rates in excess of the AAT’s average.
If you prefer a little more interactivity in your learning, from September 2010 we will be introducing an online product for Level 2, where you will receive a range of e-learning materials in addition to the Distance Learning product.
Finally, if you like the idea of the structured lectures from the classroom experience but cannot travel to a Kaplan centre, why not try our AAT Live Online course, now available for Levels 2 and 3. This course allows you to attend live lectures through your computer and receive exactly the same experience as if you were in your local centre. In addition, Live Online courses qualify for the same government funding as our classroom courses.
I am already studying AAT under the NVQ/Diploma routes – what should I do now?
The general guidance from the AAT is that current students should try to complete their current level under their existing qualification route. Kaplan is offering classroom courses for Levels 3 and 4 of both NVQ and Diploma up to the December 2010 exams to help students complete.
In rare cases it may be better for you to take credit for the units you have already passed and move to the revised qualification immediately. Why not contact your local Kaplan centre and let one of our expert assessors see which is the best option for you.
I haven’t been in education for some time – how would Kaplan support me during my studies?
We welcome students of all ages onto our AAT courses. We also ensure that the pace of our courses is set to allow all students to keep up, and we offer a variety of additional support tools for students who may need to go over material more than once or need extra support. These include our online learning resource – Kaplan En-gage, free additional study support classes in mathematics, study techniques and how to prepare for exams, and finally 1-2-1 support from your tutor and assessor outside the classroom. To find out more about this view our Studying AAT for the first time guide.
When do Kaplan's AAT courses start?
Due to the nature of the revised qualification, we will have courses starting for various units throughout the year. Subject to the AAT’s guidance about certain units that must be sat before others, you should never be more than 6-8 weeks away from being able to start an AAT course with Kaplan
How quickly can I complete my course?
You really can study at your own pace. Many students will complete Level 2 in 6 months and take 6-12 months for Level 3 and 12 months for Level 4, but the flexibility of our courses mean we can design a programme around you.
Where can I get my local centre’s timetable?
Please visit our dates, locations and prices page and select the timetable from the course information finder.
Do I have to register with the AAT before I enrol with Kaplan Financial?
There are no registration deadlines with the AAT – you can join at any time. We do recommend however that you register at least 2 weeks before you wish to sit your first Computer Based Test or e-project.
What are the current AAT registration fees?
To find the current AAT registration fees, please visit the AAT website.
Do I get any exemptions if I have completed A-levels or a degree?
Yes, you will be exempt from at least Level 2 although some prior qualifications carry more exemptions that others, so please visit the AAT website for a definitive answer applicable to you

Can I still get funding if I have a degree?
Kaplan is unable to offer funding on AAT training programmes for graduates. However you can still enrol with us as a fee payer.
If I have a full time job, can I still study?

Where can I find a break-down of your costs?
Please visit our dates, locations and prices page.
Do the prices on your enrolment form include everything?
