Martin Stoynov CFA® CAIA FRM
Martin worked as a corporate finance adviser for 4 years for a boutique UK investment banking firm. He has developed expertise in a wide range of areas including; M&A, company and intellectual propertyvaluations, fairness opinions, financial modelling, non performing assets, debt and equity financings. He has also published several analyst reports on high-yield Italian bonds and has been involved in FSA compliance efforts. Martin's blend of banking experience coupled with strong academic knowledge adds great depth to his delivery in a wide field of financial markets topics.
Erica Shea
Erica graduated from Nottingham University with a first class degree in Mathematics. She went on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte & Touche, specialising in investment management, insurance and pensions. She joined Kaplan in 2008, specialising in the financial reporting and financial management papers for Chartered Accountancy qualifications and now delivers Level 1 of the CFA Program.
Jonathan Bone ACA CFA
After graduating, Jonathan trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with BDO Stoy Hayward. Jonathan joined the Chartered division of Kaplan Financial in July 1999 and has been teaching ACA, the subjects included Corporate Finance and Business and Financial Management. In January 2001 Jonathan did a 6-month tour of duty with Financial Markets and then joined on a full time basis in December 2001. His main teaching responsibilities are SII Certificate in Regulations, Securities and Derivatives, all three levels of the CFA, the IMC and non-exam public courses, including Analysis of Financial Statements. This is a particular area of Jonathan's expertise and he has developed and delivered a number of Financial Accounting based programs to an extensive range of clients.
Jhan Burger BCom (OxBr) PDM IMM
Jhan has eight years experience in the training and education industry both in his native South Africa and the UK. Jhan spent three years developing a training unit which focused on the use of business simulations in finance and education training. He is an energetic and enthusiastic tutor of the IMC, SII Certificates and CFA Level I qualifications.
John Cook ACA CFA
John qualified as a chartered accountant in 1980, having read Maths and Music at Cambridge. He moved into finance training in 1982 where he taught all levels of the professional accountancy exam syllabus. He joined the financial markets arm of Kaplan Financial in 1990 and since then has developed and delivered a large number of courses in both the exam related and in-house non-exam courses in Europe and Asia.
John has been instrumental in developing and delivering exam based courses from entry level (IMC) to CFA levels 1, 2 and 3 in the UK, Europe, and Asia. John has extensive experience delivering in-house programmes across the whole financial arena. Ranging from financial mathematics for property lawyers through to financial modelling for Canada Life and advanced equity analysis to a range of city institutions including ABN Amro and Morgan Stanley. Other clients include Allen and Overy, Barclays Capital, Brunei Investment Agency, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, Merrill Lynch, Reuters, and UBS.
His areas of particular expertise are derivatives, portfolio management, quantitative analysis, financial modelling and company valuations. He has lectured extensively on mainland Europe and the Far East. John became a CFA Charterholder in 2004.
David McMeekin CFA, CAIA, FRM, PRM, ACIB, ACII, FPFS, ATT
David McMeekin is an experience financial tutor with 14 years teaching experience. From a banking background, David joined Abbey National teaching across a broad range of financial areas. Following this he joined Inscape Investments as a Specialist Adviser working with high net worth clients in the areas of investments, tax and pension funds.
Since gaining his CFA Charter in 2003 David has worked extensively in the area of risk management teaching towards a variety of risk qualifications as well as tailoring risk programmes to city institutions. He has gained the Financial Risk Manager (FRM), the Professional Risk Manager (PRM) and the Advanced Certificate in Operational Risk (ACOR) designations. Most recently David has specialised in Alternative Investments such as hedge funds, real estate and commodities and has gained the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation. He regularly teaches a wide variety of risk, CFA and CAIA courses in the UK and internationally.
Vishal Awatar ACA
Vishal graduated from the London School of Economics in 1996 having read finance. He went on to qualify as a chartered accountant in 2000 specialising in the insurance markets. He then spent three years as an equity derivatives product controller at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. He joined Kaplan in 2003 teaching mainly finance, management and strategy papers for the chartered accountancy qualification. Since 2007 he has been delivering level 1 of the CFA program within the financial markets division.
Paul Knight
Paul is one of the most experienced trainers in the City, having spent most of his teaching career (which started in the mid 1990s) delivering a wide range of exam and non-exam courses. After graduating with a degree in Accounting/Economics, Paul qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (now part of PWC, Price Waterhouse Coopers). Paul spent time in both consulting and corporate finance before moving into training, initially training towards the major accounting qualifications before moving back to the City and training financial markets courses. Paul has taught clients, including most of the top tier Investment Banks and Asset Managers, across a wide range of non exam courses all over the world. Deliverables have ranged from 1 day Introductory courses to multiple week Associate graduate courses for the Sales & Trading recruits at the major Investment Banks. Paul also teaches a wide range of exam courses, including all 3 levels of the CFA program (Paul was awarded his Charter in 2000).
Richard Hewison ACA CFA
Richard graduated from the University of East Anglia with degrees in Mathematics, Philosophy and Accountancy as well as gaining boardroom experience as a director of the National Student Services Company. Richard then began his career with the UK National Audit Office where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. During his time with the National Audit Office, he was seconded to the United Nations in New York as part of the UK's International Audit obligations, where amongst other duties he advised on treasury management issues.
More recently, Richard became a lecturer in Corporate Finance and Financial Analysis, obtaining the CFA charter in 2003 and gained an impressive reputation lecturing internationally in both the European and Far East major financial hubs. Richard currently specialises in teaching the CFA qualification at all three levels, the ICAEW Chartered Accountancy case study examination and the newly founded Corporate Finance Diploma. In addition to this, Richard is frequently involved in running graduate training programs for large city organisations. As well as lecturing, Richard has also been a successful derivatives trader. Richard works with Kaplan on an associate basis.
