Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between FIA and ACCA?
FIA is a suite of standalone awards which begin at GCSE level and progress up the equivalent of the first year of a bachelor’s degree. The ACCA qualification begins at first year degree level and progresses to master’s degree level. If you are a recent school leaver, have no accounting experience or do not have the required academic standard to begin the ACCA you should start on the FIA route.
How do I register as an FIA student?
You can register online via the ACCA website - http://uk.accaglobal.com
I am a sponsored student but receive no weekday study leave, can I still study towards the FIA qualification?
Yes - Kaplan Financial offers complete flexibility as we appreciate that students have varying levels of support. View our range of FIA courses
How do I become CAT qualified?
To become CAT qualified you must pass 9 exams, complete the online Foundations in Professionalism module and have one year relevant practical experience.
What is the online Foundations in Professionalism module?
This is not an exam, but a series of online scenarios which you work through. It encourages you to think about the professional, legal and ethical issues surrounding business. You will be eligible to access the online module once you have registered as an FIA student.
How long does it take to complete the FIA awards?
This depends on you. As you can study as quickly or slowly as you wish. We expect most students to complete the Introductory certificate in around three to six months; then a similar duration for the Intermediate certificate. The diploma level will take approximately six to nine months. If you wish to complete the CAT qualification then it takes a further three months to pass the Options papers.
How do I enter for a paper-based exam?
The quickest and easiest way is online, via the ACCA website. ACCA will email you when the facility is available; make sure you enter for your exams well before the deadline.
