Kaplan Financial Summer School in Reading

Kaplan Reading Oct 09 summer school

Now in its second year, the Reading Summer Business School continued to attract a diverse range of eager young minds. This year's course had an impressive attendance of 30 Year 12 students, from over 18 different schools in Berkshire.

The three and a half day course started with an introduction to the basics of accounting and moved on to a business case study based on franchises. The students were also fortunate enough to benefit from tips on CV writing from Target Accountants and improve their interview skills lead by a team from Grant Thornton.

It was a great success, leaving a lasting impression on those who took part. Not least because they got some great freebies as a reward for their enthusiasm and hard work, Tenon Group supplied IPods.

One student said: "I would very much like to thank you for such a fantastic, informative week last week. It surpassed all my expectations and it was so useful. All your efforts were very much appreciated and I cannot thank you enough for everything you did last week. Also please pass on my thanks to all the people that came in and spoke to us over the three and a half days. After reflecting on last week, I am planning to apply for Kaplan's AAT program."

Kaplan Business Challenge

We have developed a highly successful business board game which guides people through the key decisions required when running a company. This highly competitive challenge takes place over 1 or 2 days and requires teams of four people to compete.

Many of our centres are running this for schools in their area during the year.

Due to the nature of the game, the Kaplan Business challenge is only open to years 12 and 13.

CV service

We work very closely with our employers to understand their businesses and their recruitment patterns. This has allowed us to set up our CV service in each centre.

To help young people looking to start a career in Business or Finance we offer the CV service. This is available to school leavers (year 11, 12 or 13).

To use the CV service, we ask students to complete the Kaplan Financial Standard CV Format. This helps us to promote your CVs with our existing clients. The standard CV is below:

For those  people looking for an Accountancy Apprenticeship we also set minimum requirements to qualify for the CV service. This is because our clients set a level of grades they expect their employees to have. The minimum requirements are:

  • 4 GCSEs Grade C or above including Maths and English
  • Can demonstrate a clear interest in an accountancy career

By completing the standard CV format and meeting the entry requirements, we will then be able to market the CV to any of our employers who are recruiting in order to increase the chance of the person gaining employment.

Please submit your CV to steponup@kaplan.co.uk .

Please note the CV service is not available for existing Kaplan Financial AAT students.

Schools career events / Enterprise days

Our experienced team of Schools Apprenticeship Coordinators are available to attend any careers events you may be holding, and we can provide literature and advice to anyone interested in a career in a business or finance environment. Similarly if you are looking for help with Enterprise days or would like an onsite presentation on careers in business then please get in touch, we would be more than happy to help.
